(New Westminster) The Hyack Festival Associations President’s Tea marks the start of the official MISS NEW WESTMINSTER Ambassador competition. The tea takes place Sunday, February 9th in the Community Room of Royal City Centre Mall from 2-4pm.  Due to restrictions in room size, this event will be ‘Invitation Only’.  However, anyone wishing to attend is welcome to contact the office at 604.522.6894, email to: events@hyack.bc.ca or drop in to 204 Sixth Street to see if there is still room available.

This traditional event is the first opportunity for the ladies to meet the judges and will be their first opportunity to make an impression – an impression that will ultimately be worth 15% of their total mark at the end of the competition.  The President’s Tea will be hosted by President PETER GOODWIN and his First Lady TAMMY GOODWIN.  In addition to having tea poured for them by the President and First Lady, the candidates will be asked to present a speech they penned to highlight the attributes of their sponsors. “It is a very important first step on their journey to becoming one of New Westminster’s more important icons, Miss New Westminster 2014.” emphasizes program director MARGE ASHDOWN.

Independent judges are appointed to ensure complete impartiality and fairness throughout the program.   The following candidates selected their sponsors during the successful Meet ‘n’ Greet January 9th and since then have been taking the time to research them and write a speech specific to their sponsor’s core practices and beliefs.
